Yoga

Yoga Offerings:

My approach to yoga is to continue to forge the connection between the body and mind, to learn what it is like to inhabit the present moment and to leave behind unconscious and habitual reactivity to what life presents, to be compassionate and to respond to life with love, thoughtfulness and courage. My goal as a teacher is that each of my students learns to be kind to themselves, to open and strengthen their minds and bodies to meet the challenges of life with grace, courage, and compassion, and to find happiness in this moment. Yoga is about so much more than the shapes we make in our asana practice, it is our ability to meet ourselves where we are each and every time we arrive on the mat. 

SunRISE Yoga: 6:30 am

Greet the day in a most auspicious way with a morning yoga practice. Generally, there are 3 "live" practices each week (sometimes holidays or other life events mean there is a class or two that needs to be cancelled), with a minimum of 20 classes per 8-week session. Included when you register for an 8-week session, is access to a Member Page with recorded classes that you can do on your own time. As this is a virtual practice, having some yoga experience is highly recommended.

Monday Think of this virtual offering as an invitation to share my practice; I will be your guide and offer options along the way, but ultimately this is a chance for you to make this practice your own. This 75 min practice begins with a slow warm-up that includes somatic awareness before moving onto more energizing hatha based poses.*While SunRISE Yoga is fairly accessible for all levels of yogis, it is recommended that students have previous yoga experience.*
and  sequences are 75 min in length, broken up into a 75 min movement practice with the last 15 min dedicated to breath and/or meditation. We always begin these sessions with a deliciously slow warm-up to awaken the body and prepare it for movement. If your schedule or interest does not include time for the pranayama or meditation portion of the class you are always welcome to sign off at the end of the posture practice. It really is your practice and you get to decide.

Wednesday This 60 min practice is a combination of gentle hatha, somatic awareness, stretching and yin. A gently energizing and nourishing practice for the mind and body. These are self-closing classes (I guide you into savasana at the end, letting you choose whether you would like to end the class or linger a bit longer).

Friday 
SunRISE Strong is a 75 min hatha based yoga designed to build strength, mobility and balance. The class begins with a slow warm-up and some somatic awareness. Students will need one or two therabands and 2 yoga blocks (or something similar) to get the most benefit from this class.*SunRISE Strong requires some previous yoga experience and a good sense of body awareness.*
I have designed each 8-week session with the intention of dedication to practice. Consistent practice, whether you do it once a week or more often, is powerful. When you commit to 8-weeks of practice you are building the habit of getting on the mat which, over time, strengthens how we live off the mat.

Yoga Participation Waiver

My participation in any or all virtual or in-person classes with, Valerie Lafranchise, RMT, E-RYT 200, RYT 500, indicates that I am aware and understand the following:
  • I understand that there are potential risks when practicing yoga. Injury can include: soft tissue damage, provocation or aggravation of an underlying health condition, headaches etc.
  • I am responsible for my health and well-being and understand that I have the option of not participating in any or all of the instruction given by Valerie Lafranchise in her capacity as a yoga teacher and massage therapist.
  • I release Valerie Lafranchise/Stillpoint Massage Therapy & Yoga from any liability or claims arising from my participation in these classes or activities.
Note: If you have any underlying health conditions, please talk to your health professional before participating and let me know of any conditions that may affect your ability to participate safely.

Understanding how our habits of movement and breath can create tension & imbalance, or space & freedom within the body and mind is powerful and the first step to increasing overall health and wellness. The focus of each session will be dependent on your needs and may include yoga asana (postures), pranayama (breathing), and/or meditation, as well as traditional therapeutic and functional movement exercises. My goal is to meet you where you are, always and figure out together how to get you to where you want to be.
